Influenced by the long tradition of fishing history on Nantucket, the RopeWalk takes its name from the building that was used to make the ropes for the ships during the whaling days. This large and busy restaurant establishment sits right on the water, with three sides of the expansive building open to the breathtaking view of Nantucket Harbor. The restaurant serves an eclectic, American menu with an emphasis on fresh shell and fin fish, featuring such signature dishes as New England Clam "Chowda," Crispy Fried Calamari and Portuguese Mussels.
The restaurant has three dining rooms, a patio, two bars, and a raw bar. Nantucket's beautiful, boat-filled harbor can be seen from any seat in the house. The atmosphere is causal, fast-paced, and busy. The RopeWalk is a favorite with sailors, sport fishermen and families.
The RopeWalk is located right on the water at the end of Straight Wharf, and this makes it the perfect location for your special function. We have a history of hosting weddings, rehearsal dinners, anniversaries, and business dinners during the spring and fall months. Please call for information.
The RopeWalk's Senior Chef, Ron Oldham, hails from the Maryland-Delaware shore, and he currently cooks during the seasons both on Nantucket and in Key West. His Maryland crab cake is yet another one of the RopeWalk's signature recipes. He is assisted in the kitchen by Derek "Tebah" Brewley, who originates from Tortola. Ron and Tebah's cooking also bears the influence of the multinational staff members, who come from around the world - from as many as fifteen different nations - to join the RopeWalk team each summer.
